The research of PrecisionTox Working Group 6 (Regulatory Analysis & Application) explored the Capacity of Legal and Regulatory Frameworks to Accommodate NAMs. The researchers critiqued key risk assessment models and including the debate of protective vs. predictive chemical testing and the focus on hazard vs. exposure in different jurisdictions. The results suggest that NAMs offer value not fully recognized by EU law, finding more room for NAMs under REACH and CLP than commonly believed. The report also reveals complexities in the decision-making process and questions the application of the last resort principle in regulatory oversight.
